SPECIAL PARKS AND TRAILS COMMITTEE MEETING

Committee Members: Stephanie Martinez, Michael Stuy, Jim Loveridge

Charelle Bowman, Council Representative

 

1.         This meeting of the Parks and Trails Committee of the City of Cedar Hills, having been posted throughout the City and the press notified, was called to order at 7:45 p.m.

 

2.         Approval of Minutes from the June 15, 2006, Meeting


            The minutes for June 15, 2006, were approved.

 

3.         Eagle Projects

The Committee discussed the Frisbee Golf Course and the location of the T’s. The T’s should avoid popular picnic areas. They also discussed having the eagle scout do some fund raising for the cement and having the City pay for the signs. The Committee forwarded the project to the City Council for review and potential funding.

 

4.         Community Trails Meeting

The next meeting is October 12 and an e-mail will be sent to the Committee with information. The Committee received an update on the trails along the mountains and the problems with vehicles driving in the mountain areas. They hoped some gates would be installed to prevent this problem.

 

5.         Parks Up-To-Date Worksheet

            A.        Discussion of Status of Recent Park Project Bids - Discussion regarding Harvey Park hopefully coming on line and the status of the legal matters.

            B.        Future Financial Planning of Parks (fund raising) - Discussion. Jon Woozley spoke to some local companies but they were not very interested. North Utah County Soccer Association may be able to apply for a grant through the U.S. Youth Federation. Stephanie Martinez will look into this.

            C.        Timelines for Park Completion - Bids went out again for the Timpanogos Cove park. The Committee question whether all three parks needed to be packaged together or could they be bid separately. The Committee reviewed future parks and when they thought they should be completed. Discussion to involve neighborhoods and committee members in laying sod at the Doral Drive park.

            D.        Future Land Acquisition for Parks

 

6.         Bonneville Shoreline Trail Update

            A.        Grant Update - The Committee is very excited about the grant the City received. Jon Woozley gave an update on the Bonneville Shoreline Trail. The City will need to obtain permission from land owners and environmental impact information. The plan is to put this out for bid in October. The Committee will work with staff to accomplish the reuired pre-construction details.

 

7.         Yard of the Month

August - Committee member David Told. The Committee discussed ways to continue Yard of the Month and whether only doing two houses per quadrant per month was enough.

 

8.         Committee Assignments and Reports

            A.        Council Meetings Report – Fence Ordinance, etc. - Charelle Bowman introduced the fencing and landscaping ordinances.

            B.        Planning Commission Meeting Report - No report.

            C.        Recreation Liaison (Stephanie) - The North Utah County Soccer Association had approximately 3,000 participants in the fall, which was a huge increase. The U8 boys had an increase of 10 teams. The Utah County Football Conference (Lone Peak Conference) had approximately 600 participants and this was their first season. The two associations worked together this season on practice fields and game fields. Times were staggered so the traffic wasn’t so bad in the neighborhoods.

            D.        Staff/Committee Reports (recreation feasibility study report) - The Committee also discussed the recreation center and study.

            E.        Assignments and Miscellaneous
