PARKS AND TRAILS COMMITTEE MEETING

Present:           Committee Members: Jon Woozley, Jim Loveridge, Mike Stuy, Dave Told, Stephanie Martinez

                        Charelle Bowman, City Council Representative


 

1.         This meeting of the Parks and Trails Committee of the City of Cedar Hills, having been posted throughout the City and the press notified, was called to order at 7:12 p.m.

 

2.         Approval of Minutes from the March 9, 2006, Meeting

            Minutes were approved.

 

3.         Eagle Projects

                      New Proposals:

                      Clean trail and put in benches in Forest Creek area

Discussion about clearing the trail. The scout has asked to have a City employee use a back-hoe to help put the large debris in the dumpster. Also, the scout was directed to find out when water will be in the creek from the Pleasant Grove Water Master. Action Needed: Find out which bench the City is approving, and the donation of the back-hoe.

                      Planting trees east side of creek at Sunset park

A scout reported on his project by Sunset Park. He was asking for a donation for the trees and irrigation. Cascade Nursery told him they would give him 20% off the Maple tree. The scout was directed to check with Pleasant Grove Water Master on the appropriate place for trees and watering. Discussion whether this is City property or not. Action Needed: Find out from Konrad Hildebrandt if this is City property.

 

4.         Community Trails Meeting

                      North Utah County Community Trails - Dave Told attended the North Utah County Community Trails meeting. The next meeting October 12th at 10:00 am.

                      Trail Grant - The deadline for the grant may be May 1st. Discussion about other issues on the trail, such as separating it into three sections according to what we get from the grant. An idea was brought up that the property by the trail should be finished by the developer in order to develop property. The committee wanted to get a community letter of support for our grant from the committee. Action Needed – Find out when Highland City is putting in a tunnel under the street.

                      National Trails Day – Discussion about what we could do for that day, which is June 3rd. The committee felt it was a little too late to plan anything, so they would plan an event for next year. As for June 3rd, the committee would like to try to get information into the City newsletter inviting families out to walk our trail systems that day. It would be nice to have a map available for residents to be able to see where the trails are. Action Needed – Information in newsletter & map made available.

5.         Parks Up-To-Date Worksheet

                      Canyon Heights - There has been a change in design. The committee wanted to speak with Konrad Hildebrandt about the specific changes.

                      Cedars Townhomes Park – The townhomes should be demolished in the next two months.

 

6.         Bonneville Shoreline Trail Update

Dave Told plans to get together with Jim Price from the Forest Service on a Master Plan for the Bonneville Shoreline Trail. They hope to get the County to adopt the Master Plan. Discussion about speaking to Gordon with the Forest Service about cutting off the trail access with lockable columns and installing signage regarding motorized vehicles.

 

7.         Proposal #1 Discussion (Yard of the Month)

The committee read through the proposal. The consensus of the Parks and Trails Committee was to split the City into five zones and each member is assigned a month. The committee would give out two awards for Yard of the Month each month. The committee discussion the option of going together with Parks and Trails Committee shirts on.

Assignments were made as follows:

                      May – Quad 1 – Stephanie (planning on awarding on May 4th at meeting)

                      June – Quad 2 – Dave

                      July – Quad 3 – Mike

                      August – Quad 4 – John

                      Sept – Quad 5 – Jim

 

8.         Proposal #2 Discussion (Community Service)

The committee discussed the possibility of having the Mayor put out an invitation to all committee members to see if there is a citizen in need. The projects should be able to be completed in one day.

 

9.         Review/Recommendation on Fence Ordinance

Fence Ordinance - To committee felt that the intent of the ordinance should be to preserve open trails on the corridor with open fencing. They would like a possible revision made to the white vinyl to include other fencing options.

The committee would like to move their May meeting to the 4th. They would like to leave the meeting at 8:00 pm to go and award Yard of the Month. The committee would also like to plan a field trip to the pump house at the same time.

At the May 4th meeting, the Committee would like to discuss having a booth at the Family Festival.
